• must support VST3, AU, and AAX (LV2 support is desirable)
• must have resizable vector graphics
• high performance, GPU rendering is preferred
• cross-platform, works for Windows, Mac, and Linux — as little platform-specific GUI code as possible, as few platform-specific glitches as possible
